The Fairy Prince and I

image

I couldn’t believe the singing was real
But I followed it into the murky trees.
My shoes became heavy with reindeer-moss
And I abandoned them in the woolly blooms.
The ravens chased my heart and I
Traced their wings by shadow-moons.
But the path was laid with heather and I
Walked steadfast forth until I heard a brooding tone:

“You are dark and I am light, so keep away
From the night!”

He spun his words around my wrists
And challenged me to sing along
Fading the world until it grew old and thick.
It was then that I saw the ring,
A wreath of grass around my feet
And I made to leave, but he
Said that I was forever his.

Faerie Forest

This is probably the forest I love the most in the whole world! It is my childhood forest! Just right across the street from my childhood home. I played in this forest every day when I was little.

I also had to run through this forest to get to school and to visit my best friend.

I used to play with the Faeries by a little stream in these woods.

I would also seek comfort in the trees and flowers and grasses when I was sad.

I once saw a fairy by the stream! And I still remember today how it looked like!

I was never afraid of the forest and would even walk through it at night when it was so dark I couldn’t even see my own hands!

I also met a deer in this forest once. It was a very special moment in my life. The deer looked at me and I looked at him and then we bowed to each other.

Unfortunately, they built a parking lot close to the forest and they had to cut down some trees. When they did I felt that my soul would break.

Thank god, it was only a few trees and the forest still stands tall today.

I love(d) climbing those tall evergreen trees! Once, my father put up a bird house in one of the trees outside our kitchen window.

But mostly it was occupied by woodpeckers and brown furry squirrels.

The squirrels were all my friends, though. I just adore those reddish brown squirrels with their huge bushy tails!

I still believe this forest is full of tiny unknown creatures.

2016-04-15 11.12.58

I built bridges, houses, docks, boats, paddocks and all kinds of other things for them when I was little.

I also brought home little rocks, pine needles, cones and moss to make lovely little trolls and forest creatures with.

I love my little faerie forest so much and I wish every child would have such a forest to love when they are growing up. I think then, we would all grow up loving nature and never ever wish to hurt our natural surroundings.

Creating your own Troll forest

image

Real trolls are hard to come by, doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but they are shy things preferring to stay out of sight and far away from humans.

So what do you do then when you want a proper Troll forest, perhaps for a photo shoot or for a Safari for your friends, or just for plain fun! You make your own!

image

I did exactly that! I might even use these photos to illustrate a book or a story!

image

It’s pretty simple to do, you just find some figurines or toys in your attic or someone in your family’s or friends’ attic, then you go on an excursion to search for the perfect forest!

image

Try to find a forest with lots of little holes or caves in it, somewhere with dense tree population and lots of shrubs and bushes. That’s a perfect place for trolls to live!

image

Then you just position them where you want them to, and click away! It’s fun for younger kids to go on a safari and try to spot the trolls!

image

And to all you teachers out there, this is such a fun school project! The kids get to go outside and use their creativity and imagination! Especially for younger kids, this will be such a fun thing to do! Perhaps they can even write a story about the troll(s) afterwards!

Have fun! 😊
